Pure acrylic resin is a thermoplastic or thermosetting plastic substance typically derived from acrylic acid, meth acrylic acid and acrylate monomers such as butyl acrylate and methacrylate monomers such as methyl methacrylate. The binder resin in an acrylic binder or acrylic paint is a man-made product that is mostly made in labs. Generally, it is made from methyl methacrylate monomer and a common real catalyst. The catalyst speeds up the reaction which creates poly-methyl methacrylate, known as acrylic plastic polymer .These are “base” liquid products that are used to make paints and that keep additives, pigments and fillers together. Made from dry resin, they are “wet” and dispersed with either a solvent or water.
